That is what writing fiction is for me. This is a slight change in a quote from another author (Michael Scot). In telling a story we can sometimes get closer to and communicate the truth better than if we present a series of facts. If you subscribe to this blog you will get an audio short story called Ring of Fire. I think this is a good example of what I mean. If you listen to the story you will hear about people who are not real and an incident although real, that happened a little differently. But in the setting and events the story tells a larger truth about the situation in Speke in the 70s.

I wrote my first novel around 1990. At that time if you wanted your writing to be seen you would have to physically send it to agents and publishers, unless of course you had some contacts within publishing. The cost of distributing the manuscript, printing and sending out 250 page documents was impossible for me. I have no doubt that it would have been rejected anyway, although it was and is a good story. I think the writing was below par.

I am much happier with ‘Under The Bridge’ a completed novel set in Garston, and can’t wait for it to be shared with the public – I can publish it myself on Amazon, but will only do this after I have given up trying to get an agent and be published through the traditional route. I am writing a new novel set in Speke in 1981 and may put some early chapters online to get reader’s reactions. So stay tuned… I really appreciate the support.
